Blown Save % ??
With the recent signing by the St. Louis Cardinals of Brendan Looper, i starting wondering how bad this deal was and really how bad is Looper?? I figure that the Cards will use him primarily as a set-up man and insurance policy on Issy, but with his 8 BS last year he def wont close for the Cards. it got me wondering what peoples BS% per inning is. I'm most likely going out on a limb or even not think correctly about the use of these numbers but here is a list of some of the current closers and their numbers. If you notice some of the "Closers" where actually starters for some of their career, so I bleive that it sort of screws the numbers. You know what though...Fuck it... let's see um already huh?
Career Stats through 2005 Season
Closer | BS% | IP | |
Gagne | 0.011 | 543 | |
Nathan | 0.0293 | 409.2 | |
Mesa | 0.0385 | 1426.1 | |
Isringhausen | 0.0472 | 471
Guardado | 0.0475 | 799.1 | |
Foulke | 0.0495 | 706 | |
Lidge | 0.0501 | 259 | |
Wickman | 0.0607 | 955.2 | |
Hoffman | 0.062 | 822.1 | |
Benitez | 0.0628 | 684 | |
Looper | 0.0636 | 530 | |
Riveria | 0.0644 | 807 | |
K-Rod | 0.0658 | 243 | |
Wagner | 0.0714 | 600 | |
F. Cordero | 0.0762 | 367.1
Percival | 0.0865 | 612.2 |
As you can see, Gagne is the man in coverting save oppurtunities him and Nathan have been the most consistant in their careers in converting save chances to saves. Mesa i kind of ignore because of his years as a starter and also the fact that he has pitched for like 50 years or so.
Ok thats my piece for the moment, ill try and get some more posts in before the Xmas break, and hey dont forget to check out Baseball World for further discussion on this topic.
